A beautiful song to begin our new week (enjoy the link above).
Home is where we hang our hats, hearts and hurdles (aka baggage), and celebrate our journey, in our own unique ways... If we're ever feeling a bit too 'upright' or 'frayed' in our meant to be 'carefree' abode, Laurent Chéhère from Ménilmontant, Paris will help us get a better perspective with his dreamy collection of "Flying Houses"-- fantastical buildings (homes, tents and trailers) floating amidst the clouds, just like kites!
Inspired by gypsies in caravans waiting for their eviction by the police, circuses on the edge of freeways surrounding Paris, the quiet life in the suburbs, and the famous 34 minute film The Red Balloon by Albert Lamorisse, Chéhère's "Flying Houses", a surreal series, explores the city's varied architecture and culture, giving notoriety to the anonymous. A tribute to the old Paris, this montage combines Chéhère's hand drawings of the buildings, photography of windows, walls, roofs and people, and digital manipulation. Taking pieces of the traditional and decorating it his way, Chéhère takes us on a heartfelt flight home...
And around the world this series goes as "Flying Houses" flies into the Biesenbach Gallery in Cologne, Germany this week: Thursday, February 21st and then into the Lume Photo Gallery in São Paulo, Brazil (May 14 - June 21, 2013). Rise up and soar and be counted among the many: A beautiful invitation to travel and to seek out the sunny side of living! Let's hang out today...
Happy Presidents' Day America & Happy Family Day Canada!
