Hello October! Quiet living celebrates our well-being (better health, less stress), with an emphasis on quality over quantity (the less is more principle), and deeper engagement with our loved ones, work, and creative side (without the noise, rush, and distractions). Three 'easy' ways to summon the calm contentment of quiet living in and out of our classrooms and working environment...
>>> Set boundaries (with ourselves and others):
Stepping back from social media and busy electronic devices to allow for quality time (2 hours after dinner) to unwind for the day, preparing our bodies for 7 - 9 hours of needed sleep. Eg. a hot shower/bath, relaxing candle scent, favourite decaf tea with maple syrup/ honey, breathwork, soothing music/ light reading.
>>> Embrace a small(er) circle of family, friends and colleagues who add value to our lives and lift us up:
Choose friendships very wisely. Quality connections celebrate each other, problem-solve, and lead with quiet, respectful refinement. Avoid noisy energy-drainers, dagger-throwers, and aggressive personalities. There is no sweet way to say this, Abuse is abuse and there's nothing positive to benefit another within that framework.
>>> Make time and space each week for a hobby we enjoy:
Our hobby (hobbies) are our internal treats to ourselves. It's the gift that keeps on giving as we constantly work on perfecting our loved craft and soon enough are able to share the joy of with family, friends, and new connections. Just a few years ago, I 'lived' to go to the ice cream shoppe, every Thursday. It was one of my special end of the week pleasures, varietal flavours galore. And it felt even more luxurious when one of my Grade 2 boys told me on a Thursday it was his favourite day too (without knowing my reason why), sharing that his nanny takes him on the highway over a hill to a special ice cream shoppe, on Thursdays. It explained why he was so super-charged on a Thursday. :) Something to look forward to. We can all relate.
