Cherries are well-known for helping with restful and deeper sleep with being a natural source of melatonin, the chemical that manages our body's internal clock and regulates sleep. Over the years we've enjoyed them in my Roasted Summer Cherries Ice Cream and also with my dairy-free Cherry-Vanilla Sorbet. With the end of January and February being our coldest time of the year (deep-freeze) experienced, I'm signing us all up for a delicious Winter Cherry Almond {Rest Even Better} Smoothie. (Serves 2)
2 cups organic dark sweet cherries*
1/2 cup organic whole milk
1/2 cup organic vanilla yogurt
1 tablespoon pure almond extract
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon pure cherry jam
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
pinch of fine iodized salt
Add all the ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend to your desired smoothness. If too thick, just add a tad more milk.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
*Invest in good organic cherries. Non-organic cherries are heavily sprayed with pesticides, and are also lectin-bombs (gut and hormone disruptors). Know your cherries. :)
