Last week, I had the foggiest brain moment with the words 'baloney' (/bəˈlōnē/) and 'bologna' ( bə-ˈlō-nē) in the midst of a deep, trying-to-remain-focused conversation that went all over the place, —and then had a really good laugh at myself, after the fact. I hadn't come across the first in ages, or eaten the latter in decades (although it was once my famous go-to lunch sandwich, crispy edges and all from a frying pan). Soon enough, mental images of beautiful Bologna (bō-ˈlō-nyä) were thrown into the mix. So. much. Bologna. Later on that evening, as it still hung onto me, I discovered this fun fact. It surely punctuated things-pronunciation and was enough to remind me of the importance of some warm outdoor sun and longer walks. She's on her way... Recents from around the web...

// Navigating b and d Reversals

As classroom-based learning continues online, and from home for most, especially our kindergarten through elementary grade level children, a few notables may pop up now and again. And they are quite normal— no need for alarm. A frequent is letter reversals with lowercase letters such as b, c, d, s, and y // with b and d being the most challenging. Of the many, many ways to navigate and correct this common occurrence, my go-to is the simple three-second hands on technique that can be incorporated (as needed), and without the use of added manipulatives. Emphasis on keeping it simple and avoiding fancy multi-letter-print posters, fonts, pictures, and variety excess which often have a way of overwhelming the brains of our little ones. And I'd add to that, kind communication with each other. It's amazing how a day can go from waking-up-fabulous, to 'unhinged', to absolutely wonderful!, and within hours, all because of gracious communication with each other, and our confidence with the behind-the-scenes. No apprehensions or anxieties necessary. We're thankful for those who have, and continue to be there. It's been a fully-loaded 2020 for most as we now reflect on the year that was, and begin looking ahead to 2021. Hands down, count ourselves truly blessed when in good health, have our go-to Brilliants, and are happily engaged in work we enjoy. Life is indeed a gift. More recent and loved reads, fun finds, and little gifted treats...
